It's Five Minute Friday again! Today's word is Rest.
GO
There is always so much to do - piles of laundry and dishes to clean, a ridiculous amount of emails to sort through, mail to be sent, errands to do, dog to be fed and walked and fed and walked again, dinner to be made, books to read... it never ends! And then you need to rest - sleep, take a nice long shower, pray, nap, sit quietly with your thoughts, or even sometimes just relaxing in front of the TV for a little while. Whatever you consider rest, you probably have a hard time finding time for it. And that's where I've been going wrong for so long - sometimes, you just have to figure out what's most important, and leave the rest of it for later so you can rest. You can never do everything. Unsubscribe from some of those emails, get rid of those books that have sat on your shelf unread for years, sort through the clutter and give or throw away things you don't need. (I know, that may sound like adding something else TO your to-do list rather than taking away, but in the long run it will help!! Less things to collect dust, ya know?) Whatever you need to do to give yourself a little less to do each day and a little more time to breathe :)
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. (Genesis 2:2)

Finding out what's important. That is so key to saying "no" to the screaming list of to-do's and saying "yes" to rest. I agree, a more simplified life does open the opportunities for space for rest. The most difficult task for me is in accepting my limitations. For some strange reason, I have convinced myself I could so do much more if I had more energy or were more organized or more..something. Finding out what's important doesn't require me to be more than me. It frees me to be me and to rest.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouragement.
Cheryl, I do the same thing! I think, if only I could wake up earlier I'd have more time in the day to get things done, or maybe if I learned how to organize my time better... but yes, the problem is making too much to do, not trying to find more time for it :) Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteVery inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise :)
DeleteI am with you girls. I try and do way too much and try to do a perfect job...even though I know I am far from perfect! What a silly mortal I am!! Thanks Sarah, loved this :)

ReplyDeleteLol Debbie I know what you mean :D And thank you! I don't feel like I'm being all wise or inspiring... It's nice to hear that others think that, though!
